Cell Surface (Epithelial) Antibodies, IgG by IIF
Ordering Recommendation
Use to assess and monitor cell surface (CS) antibodies, also known as intercellular substance (ICS) antibodies, in patients with IgG pemphigus variants with normal IgG desmoglein 1 and IgG desmoglein 3 antibody levels. Testing should be correlated initially with concurrent Direct Immunofluorescence, Tissue Biopsy (Cutaneous, Mucosal, Epithelial) (0092572). Serum Pemphigus Antibody Panel, IgG (0090650) has increased diagnostic sensitivity and specificity when testing for pemphigus. For comprehensive testing, consider ordering the Immunobullous Disease Antibody Panel (3001409).
For more information about components, methodology, and specimen type, see the ARUP Immunobullous Disease Testing Comparison tool.
New York DOH Approval Status
Specimen Required
Plain red or serum separator tube (SST).
Transfer 2 mL serum to an ARUP standard transport tube. (Min: 0.5 mL)
Refrigerated/ambient
Hemolyzed or lipemic specimens. Plasma.
As a general rule, serum specimens should be shipped to the laboratory as soon as possible.
Store refrigerated unless shipping promptly (within 2 hours). Transport at ambient temperature to arrive within 7 days. If 7-14 days until received in laboratory, store and ship refrigerated. If greater than 14 days, serum specimens must be stored and shipped frozen.
Ambient: 1 week; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: Indefinitely
